Manholes are safety emergency ventilation devices installed on the top of storage tanks, usually used in conjunction with fire extinguishers and mechanical breathing valves. They can not only prevent accidents caused by sudden overpressure or vacuum inside the tank, but also play a safety and fire retardant role. They are safety devices that protect storage tanks and are particularly suitable for arched atmospheric tanks with nitrogen capped storage materials. It has the advantages of constant pressure discharge, constant pressure suction, flexible opening and closing, safe fire resistance, compact structure, good sealing performance, and safety and reliability. Manholes are divided into emergency pressure relief manholes, explosion-proof and fire-resistant breathing manholes, tank top manholes, tank wall manholes, and core manholes. Manholes are generally made of 304, 316L stainless steel plates or carbon steel.

According to the capacity of communication pipe blocks, stainless steel manholes are divided into three categories: large, medium, and small, based on the number of pipe section pipe blocks or single hole pipe hole inner diameter 90mm, which can accommodate specifications of 360mm wide and 250mm high (standard six hole pipe hole inner diameter 90mm cement pipe blocks, abbreviated as standard blocks). The size of the manhole installed in the communication pipeline should be set according to the long-term capacity of the communication pipeline. We should not only consider the capacity of communication pipelines in this phase of construction.
2. According to the division of manhole access, it can be divided into straight through manhole, three-way manhole, four-way manhole, and diagonal through manhole. Please refer to Table 1 for details. Among them, the inclined manhole is further divided into five types: 15 °, 30 °, 45 °, 60 °, and 75 °. The angle of each diagonal manhole can be applied within a range of ± 7.5 °.
3. According to the load capacity of the manhole cover, it can be divided into two types: steam level 20 and steam level 10.
